Toast 16,142 Posted January 31, 2016 I think it's absolutely fine to post it in "Dead of 2016". I've said before, I think all deaths should be recorded in the "Dead of (year)" thread. Then it serves as a handy reference diary for the year in question. Surely this was the original purpose of the thread?

I feel this thread should be more of a reference point instead of a discussion thread. Maybe the person who has added a death or another poster could post a link to a more suitable thread for discussion.
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted February 1, 2016 I was just thinking the other day we haven't had a discussion about the use of the dead of 2016 thread for a while. And lo and behold.... As someone who habitually posts to the wrong thread despite trying (occasionly) I have found to my cost there is a thread for everything. Finding the right one though... ah there's the rub. There is a certain cachet in being able to post a death but you are at a considerable disadvantage if you do not possess an encyclopedic knowledge of the site. Personally I've given up but if others want to try and be first let them post here - at least it's a levelish playing field then.

Toast 16,142 Posted February 1, 2016 Seems simple to me. Post any death here first. If everyone did this, then it would be easier to keep up with the news. Sometimes when I come on here, there are new posts in several dozen threads, and there isn't time to check through them all so it's easy to miss something.

Seems logical, but sometimes people don't have the brain capacity to do so. Getting rid of that snarky little tagline would be a start. Posting news of a death has been made way too complicated. Post it in the year thread - that way you can see quickly if someone has beaten you to it. Then you can post it in whatever specialised thread you deem fit, for further discussion. Leave a link in the year thread if you wish.

I intend to start posting news of deaths to the year thread and then I will post elsewhere too for discussion or more indepth discussion if I am so moved. I think this will add clarity and a degree of user friendliness to the forum.

Is this your sister? http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8629&page=3#entry247926 I would presume that because she wrote his obituary that the original sister who posted was Joanna and was probably surfing the net looking for information when she landed here. If Guest is her brother then he must be either Ian or Adam (there were two other sisters). Hi Ian or Adam if indeed it is one of you. I think your criticism of this site is not wholly unfounded but is misplaced. The thread is full of humour, respect and information about people who have died and without it I would never have known of your father, for example. As you will see from the link to presumably Joanna's post there followed a number of condolence wishes form the members of this forum. Certainly the forum is also sprinkled with a liberal dose of nastiness and unpleasantness but it is mainly tongue in cheek and there is very little that occurs in life from which some humour can not be extracted. Your father was obviously a funny man and I'm sure there are many, many posts on here, drivel and otherwise, that he would have found hugely amusing. Best wishes to your family.
