4 pointsProbably for the best then, Shaun. Take care. Remember you can always go back later in life if need be.

3 pointsAfter much soul searching I have withdrawn from University.Very sad but it is the right decision.

2 pointsI don't think it's practical to ignore all the other picks because if 3 or 4 of your team die every month then you have to go looking for new blood. Inevitably the most likely new candidates are those survivors on people's teams from the previous month, whether you identify them independently or by a trawl through the master list. Here's my no-longer-required line-up which 'stole' Leo Cahill from GCR but I got him on a free transfer as GCR went out. I did consider just going for the survivors from GCR team for April plus 3 of my own but felt this would not feel like a victory for me if I won that way. Paul van Zandvliet Catherine Nevin Anne Hamilton-Byrne Julia Perez Errol Christie Michael of Romania Leo Cahill Leah Bracknell Vanessa Goodwin Patrick Cryne Sonja Durham

2 pointsWhile many deaths are sad, one death that happened that day made a lot of people happy...

1 pointFelt that a thread for legendary big name movie actor was warranted and due. A prolific actor and director who has been influential in the movie industry especially in his later years with his founding of the innovative Sundance Film festival. I felt that his status and history as one of Hollywood's favourite leading men justified an individual thread. He's definitely one from his generation of actors who's a household name. The fact he's turned 80 in the last year, has in recent years been the subject of gossip and speculation over his health and his recent announcement that he plans to retire from acting are taken together good ground's for him now finally having his own thread. He's certainly a big enough name for us not to want to be caught unawares on here if he were too pass away suddenly. So here it is a thread for one of the most accomplished and popular actors in the past fifty years -Robert Redford.

1 pointIf it's any encouragement, I wish I'd never gone to a university. I should have learned to do something useful instead.

1 pointThat reminds me of how I spent the last two weeks of April checking Indonesian Twitter and Indonesian news websites about the condition of my unique pick Julia Perez, many times a day. On April 21st, I decided to post about her poor condition on this thread just because I thought there was no way she'd survive the month. But of course, she made a bit of a recovery, and lived into May. I lost the Cup round, and now she's a unique for someone else - DDT.

1 pointNicky Campbell is going to be surprised soon to be told that Roger Bannister is still alive. He just referred to him as 'the late, great Roger Bannister' on 5live. Oops!

1 pointOn the second of May in 1995 English stage and film actor Michael Horden died aged 83. On stage he mainly took Shakespearen roles with King Lear being his most well known role. Born on the 3rd of October 1911 in Hertfordshire Horden was born into a very theatrical family. His early film roles in the 1930s were largely uncredited but he steadily built his career up over subsequent decades into bigger roles. Amongst the films he took bigger roles in were Passport to Pimlico, Scrooge, You Know what sailor's are, Sink the bismarck, The Pied Piper and The secret garden.

1 pointI think she intended them to be a bit distinct from her other novels, but they're not really much different from the standalone psychological ones.

1 pointYou haven't read any of the Barbara Vines? You lucky, lucky bastard! They are the best of the lot. The very last one (The Child's Child) isn't a typical Vine, so I would leave that till last. A couple of the later ones I found the explanations a bit obvious, but they were still cracking good reads, and the first ten or so are brilliant.

1 pointI enjoyed the early PD James novels, but she developed a dreadfully verbose and turgid style and the books became way too long. And i hate it when the detective's personal life becomes too intrusive. Ruth Rendell just managed to stay on the right side of that with her Wexford novels, but only just. There was usually a topical strand in there that saved it. I much preferred the non Wexford ones though.
-
1 pointI really, really miss her. I haven't been able to find any other author who comes near her for creating ominous dread with such a light and sure touch. Her last few novels weren't up to her best, but still better than most of the dross out there.

1 pointHappy Birthday and Welcome Danielle Darrieux in the 100 Club She was the most notable French actress beside Michele Morgan in the 50s. Now she is the oldest living actress, still active after 85 years of career.

1 pointIt's not going to win, lol... Even if Suisala obits, it's only at 20th place in my rolling scoreboard. I already have two non-obits and some relatively bad picks (Cheyann Clark, Leanne Hock, Gemma Nuttall, Laura Saull). It would take Bracknell, Christie and Downie surviving PLUS Juan Pedro Franco dying and Emma Houlston obiting to give Shameless the victory.

1 pointWould have liked to spend more time on it, but all of my research this time around was compiled in Arthur's Pass village using some very shoddy rural wifi as the snows were sweeping in from the West Coast. Not ideal for in depth digging. I don't like copying picks from others, but when they sound like genuinely good picks, there's at least a bit of a blocking manoeuvre required from time to time. Best of luck, and well played to GUN. Certainly went down to the wire... Now I just hope GUN's no-longer-required line-up doesn't do better than mine. And looking at DI's line-up, I'd say I'm pretty screwed anyway, so I hope no one will mind that I've booked a five-week holiday starting about two weeks before the end of the round...

1 pointWhat I want to know is who will be the next guy to hire this gal for a lap dance? And I wonder what she thinks about next time (if ever) she performs. Anyway, he's my new hero. SC

1 pointNo. 2017 is lame as a duck, but not the proverbial lame duck. As a duck which is lame because it stepped on a land mine or somewhat.

1 pointBan the lot, unless they have achieved something deserving of fame that is not connected to their illness or their relatives. I'm seriously losing interest in the whole idea of deadpooling now. I don't like the morbid searching for terminally ill nobodies. It's sick, and it brings a previously defensible and harmless game into disrepute IMO.

1 pointAnd no more crappy business with the dates of birth from the 19th Century failing to translate from Excel to Access. That's one less burden on my successor...
