Welcome to the forums. We already have threads for the death penalty and for prisoners. Either thread is suitable enough for discussion of death row inmates.

On the subject of "reasonable definition of a celebrity", one of the great sensible minds of the forum said this once: And it's stuck with me as a crucial point. Indeed, it was a view point I used to help shape my various teams this year. But then, 8 years on this forum has told me one thing, it's that no two forum members have the same view on fame thresholds. There isn't a statistical level, it's very much a subjective thing. tbf to Gcreptile here, as much as I really hated the Shameless team, I am led to believe he was doing it deliberately to make the same point you are, only in a somewhat less subtle way.

Dylan's seminal 1968 album John Wesley Harding was definitely country. Recorded in Nashville with country musicians.

A reasonable definition is a celebrity is as simple as Handrejka put it if not simpler "They've done something of notability unrelated to illness/age". Bring in that rule and the competition will be so so much richer for it. Who knows? It might actually entice some of the old crowd back. Whatever his supposed justification it was still utterly pathetic. It didn't make a point, looking at the entries for this year the shameless pick brigade didn't seem to take any heed and dozens of genuine theme teams have completely given up knowing they can't compete with shameless type theme teams! He's got a point though you can't just say "everybody does it fun" when you're running commentary essentially treats it with the same significance The Wall Street Journal treats the stock markets and analyses each team in more depth than the sport's bookies papers analyse each fucking runner and rider. If that's what you got kick out why not do the old fashioned way and pull up the fantasy football? At least nobody has to die for that to work!

No he wasn't. I assume no one had him here then?? He had dementia for a while and been in a nursing home for last few years.

Quite a few people seem to play for competitive purposes or for the sake of wanting to win. Playing a theme team of cancer mums/terminally ill nobodies so they can win the theme team league? You know that sort of utterly pathetic kind of shit that nobody respectable would do...

Does anyone NOT play it for fun? It's not like there's a big cheque for the winner, it's just a bit of a distraction from life.

If that's what you're thinking about after reading my post, kindly fuck off. It's a minor detail.

I stil love the game. The obit rules make it more interesting.I avoided cancer mums and most FFBI.The only FFBI out of my 60 is Noel Conway but if he overturned the the law on assisted dying would go down in history. Also I consider him an activist.

Feliz Cumpleaños Señor De Cuellar, May you have many more years of health, so that you can continue living for no apparent reason, except for being the mascot of some obscure British website.

Aye, 56 points in the end. Jessica Falkholt got about 30 points too. As far as I can see quickly glancing over my notes, no one even pretended for a moment Bobby Zarin was Deathlisty however.

Not suggesting for a moment that the host does any monitoring. I just think it's something that people need to keep in mind. UK players would tend to be more in tune with the DL mindset, although it goes without saying that it's subjective up to a point.

Never understand why people get mad when newbies use "We." They probably just made their first shadow list and are, as well as the committee for their own list, anticipating somebodies death, in this case he was probably saying he and the committee will probably keep Olivia de Havilland on the list until she dies, therefore used the pronoun We to convey his point that other people along with him will likely keep de Havilland on their lists. Hell, I sometimes unintentionally use it. Overall, it shouldn't be this important.

So I've just discovered there's a happy hardcore/acid house/techno tradition of remixing childrens TV songs. My life is fucking complete.

I don't know if it's safe to make a victory speech yet but I would like to take this opportunity to make my retirement speech. It's been an interesting, strange and sometimes morally questionable few years for myself. I've enjoyed finding out about random personalities and their stories I would have otherwise been ignorant of. However having, I think, claimed the title this year or at least given it my best shot I'm going to hang up my boots. There's only so many Christmases I can spend googling 'terminally ill with' before needing to step back. I considered entering a more 'proper' celebrity based team but I want to be able to compete and this is my best opportunity to go out on top. I'm especially pleased to have beaten the legendary DQSP this year, with it being the last chance to do so for the foreseeable future as he takes over the reins. I had a fair bit of luck this year with so many risky picks going my way so it feels right to at least take a break from it. At times in the past I've allowed myself to put far too many hours into researching the dying so I'm going to be focusing my energies elsewhere. There's more to life than death. I'll still be around the forums occasionally and may return to chase top spot again. Good luck to everyone competing next year and to the new host Mr DQSP. And big thanks to the Man in Black for all his efforts. Arrivederci, bon voyage and fare thee well.
