8 pointsNot gonna lie, I've done little other than sleep, eat, work and handle this site since December 20th. I am very, very ready for a day spent watching "205 Live" and playing Football Manager 2019. I haven't played any FM in six weeks, my computer probably thinks its been sold to someone else.

4 pointsMy old man is a bit better. He has been shifted to a regular ward, is breathing with nasal cannula only and has even got up from bed to eat some (awful) soup. Still his condition is serious. Sunday night I spent the night in hospital with him, as I did some other day. In his room there were a 93-year old man I did not know and a 104-year old man who is considered a sort of legend here. Around midnight I reckoned the 93-year old guy was not breathing at all and woke up his daughter. The man had passed away, so nurses came to take him to the morgue. They were quite loud so both my father and the 104-year old man woke up. While my father didn't give a damn, the 104 guy was terrorized: he hid his face under the blankets and looked away for all the time, visibly trembling. Maybe he thinks he is so old Death has forgotten him and will live forever, but I assure you I was so astonished by his extreme naivety.

3 pointsDon't fack with my image, you're a down to earth, no nonsense Scottish fisherman. Away we ye Norse and Gaelic (Mannannnan can't even spell it, nevermind visualise it) bullshyze. The pic wuz gud. But if ye start down the lunatic mystic path, I'm lost. ETA: Jayzuz. 99 posts between this and what I was replying to and it was only a few hours ago. Fack it, figure it out for yourselves.

3 pointsA random stat, there are an incredible 140 teams on the 2019 roster who have now entered the DDP for ten or more years. Two teams, one of them @drunkasaskunk, have been at it for over twenty years. I didn't count, but there are also many, many teams entering for the eighth or ninth time. Very impressive brand loyalty and a level of return business that some websites would kill for.

2 pointsOk, Sir Creep, he is not dead. Anyway the team of doctors who were treating him has been ousted by another, higher, team of doctors. This comes as the Seer is not recovering properly: though complications from surgery which were affecting his liver have ended (mind you, doctors never said he was suffering from them before!) infections on lungs persists and it seems his body is not able to produce enough blood cells. He is not able to breathe on his own even for a few seconds and is getting 600 mL of "water" drained from lungs every day (two weeks ago it was only 200 mL every two days). I conclude this futile update with a new photo of the man.

2 pointsI'm confused. Not an unusual state of affairs for me. I've never posted on this board under another name. Do you think I'm Charon? I'm flattered, but no, I'm afraid not. I am the person who plays the Derby Dead Pool under the Charon's Crew name. This is my third year of playing, although I followed it as a non player for many years. I've been posting here since around the time I started playing it. Until this year, I had only one team, although this year I've also entered a theme team. But I've been around, even if unnoticed. I picked Jessica Falkholt last year, and commented to you about it back then. As Handrejka pointed out, (thanks Handrejka!), Charon is the ferryman of the dead, so it's an understandable coincidence. I was originally going to call my team Charon's Passengers, but then I liked Charon's Crew more. I didn't know there was already a user named Charon when I joined, but I wasn't surprised when I found out.

1 pointINVERSE DEAD POOL 2019 As always, with the new year comes another opportunity for you all to reckon which DDP darlings have another 365 days left in their tanks. Though the 2018 Inverse Dead Pool had less deaths among its selectables than 2017 (15 compared to 20), there were still three massive scoreboard-scrambling landmines among them in Stephen Hawking, Aretha Franklin, and Stan Lee. By the year's end, machotrouts emerged the least scathed with 17 points. Rules From the list of the 50 most popular DDP picks of 2019, pick a team of 25 names who you think will survive the year. Rank your list in order of least likely to die to least least likely to die. Post your team in this thread. If someone dies and they are listed on your team, then you will receive points according to their position. If your #1 pick dies you'll receive 25 points, whilst if your #25 pick dies you'll receive 1 point. If someone dies and they are not on your list, then you receive no points. In case one of the names available for entry dies before the submission deadline, you are allowed to have one sub. The sub can be anyone from the top 50 or the 51st most popular name, who will be revealed alongside the top 50. The 51st name can not be part of the original 25 if no one dies. In the case of one of your original team dying pre-deadline, the sub goes into 25th place by default, but if the sub was previously the 51st, you are allowed to change the position of the new pick. If the above scenario happens, you are also allowed to name a new sub and I will reveal the 52nd most popular name. Whoever has the lowest score at the end of the year is the winner. NEW: If two or more teams are tied at the end of the year, the tie will first be decided by who has less hits. If they have an equal amount of hits, then whoever among the teams died latest in the year, and thus came closest to being a correct prediction, will decide the winner. If said name was on multiple teams in the tie, whoever had said name lowest will win. If multiple teams had said name in the same position, the second most recently-deceased name will be referred to, and so on, until a winner is found. If, by some alignment of the stars, the tie is of either no hits or of all of the exact same hits in the exact same positions, all teams in the tie share victory. Credit to Toast for inadvertently coming up with a peach of a topic description, and of course, credit to Spade for creating this wonderful game. Credit to Dead Cow for his job as previous host, laying the framework for the Inverse Dead Pool's OP, and the idea for a "dies during entry period" rule. Credit to machotrouts for the suggestion of the latest hits factoring into tiebreakers. 1 pointI like to think I have the same outlook in that I don't necessarily want these people to die but it is more like an academic exercise to predict who I think is likely. In saying that I am a very competitive person and very much have the attitude "if someone keeps score it is worth winning." Anyone in any doubt about that should talk to Mrs T about me playing Just Dance against her 10 year old nephew recently. So the reality is that there is a large element of wanting to be correct and to score points, and the fact that these people have to die to make it happen can't really be separated. In saying all this when I keep track of the progress of some of these people and especially if I start following them on Twitter I can get quite attached to them. I purposely didn't select Kate Granger the year she passed because I didn't want to be conflicted about her death. I probably wouldn't have selected SKS again had he survived 2018. Most people who know about this hobby of mine think of it as quite harmless. A small number of friends will text me to ask if I selected a particular person when someone of note cashes in. I think Mrs T thinks it quirky (and she was helping me with my last few picks for my personal 50), but I don't think she'd approve if it went beyond my current involvement.

1 pointI look at it this way. I don't actually want these people to die, with a few exceptions, (I was perfectly happy to lose Ian Brady), and I'm happy if they beat the odds and make it. I'm really rooting for Greg Gilbert to survive for example, and I was sad when we lost Brian Cant, even though both were on my team. But if they die, despite my willing them on, I might as well have the points. Yes, good luck to all, and thanks to Spade and everyone else for the massive amount of work this must take. It's appreciated.

1 pointI'm somewhat more bullish about the chances of Pity Da Foolz performing well this year. 16/20 picks are eligible for Drop 40/Unique Bonus points. Martin Plaza who is my really wild selection is unique as is Bill Hayden (who really doesn't look well). I am very surprised that Hayden didn't get selected by someone else, have all the Australian theme teams gone to the beach? I too am surprised that Bob Hawke didn't make Drop 40 (to tell you the truth if there was someone I could replace given the chance that is the one). My other non-bonus picks are Pete Frates (punters must be losing patience with his slow burn MND), Fatima Ali (just not all that famous) and Andrew McGahan (again perhaps not all that famous internationally-very well known in my neck of the woods-thought that he would've been sniffed out by enough cadaver hounds to elevate him to Drop 40). With McGahan a seemingly nailed on certainty and Fatima Ali very likely to die and being young I think they are still good selections. My mother hates me doing this....she thinks it is sick and twisted that I effectively cheer on 20 people to die. I prefer to think of all the people who I didn't select who I want to continue living (there must be 100's of these). Looking at the other contenders I think John McCririck is probably the one I was closest to picking but didn't who will be the most damaging should he die. Of course but for the forums I would never have heard of him-from the pictures I've seen of him I don't think they would have all the pieces to make an indentikit picture of him if he committed a crime. With The Honourable Robert James Lee Hawke not making the Drop 40 I think replacing Hawke with McCririck is the change I would make given the chance. Good luck to all the team managers and their selections. Thanks to Spade for devoting so much of his time to get this up and going so quickly with all of the technical difficulties.

1 pointYes, mine is a particular DL because I choose only people that: 1) I know (i don't like actor, VIP that i never heard before or the semi unknown hockey player from Canada) 2) Are famous (so not people known only for being ill, sadly a lot of deadpool are full of this shit) I should search for some younger VIPs ill, but it isn't simple following my two rules.

1 pointVince is indeed 73 and apparently in above-average health for his years, but has been known to indulge in some "supplements", if you get my drift. Flair is reportedly back on the booze. Lawler was actually clinically dead for 20 minutes some years ago and probably only survived by having a cardiac arrest at an event with paramedics on the premises and having it in Montreal, home to one of the top five coronary care facilities in the world. He's apparently heeded the warning and has taken decent care of himself since. Gut feeling is that Lawler's the last man standing of the three.
