I'd be willing to bet my life savings that this is at the instigation of some shyster lawyer rather than of Elden's own volition. I'm also looking forward to seeing law enforcement agencies chasing up the millions of people who've bought the album to charge them all with possession.

@Vinegar Tits, that brings me good memories. We were young and innocent then. You know, I miss my younger sister. We'd go down to the old record store after school. We used to sit in the store all the time listening to Darts songs. The owner was our uncle. I don't feel like listening to music right now. Since she died, it hasn't been quite the same. I'd like to turn back the time.

So this current drought is now about as long as the year has left.

Saw them twice in the 70's. First time when Den was the bass singer (that guy was a nutter in the best possible way)

In case the Scotsman isn't a source, the BBC have come through unsurprisingly with a QO for Elizabeth Blackadder: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-58324930

The person who was the baby on Nirvana's "Nevermind" album sues for "sexual exploitation" / child pornography: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/baby-nirvana-nevermind-album-cover-sues-band-child-porn/ I guess he'd have a point if he hadn't revealed in numerous articles, that yes, he was the baby on the cover, e.g.: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/jan/16/thats-me-picture-spencer-elden-nirvana-nevermind "It's opened doors for me..." yadda, yadda...

currently on an 127 days drought what we're trying to beat here is 151 days. (2011) after that we got 175 days (2003-2004) 177 days (2000-2001) and then 183 days (2002-2003) So it seems to be already in the top 5 longest droughts of the millenium

So I guess the Rolling Stones are now essentially The Mick N Keef Show. I presume Charlie's death is connected to what he underwent that emergency op for. Really sad news, a huge death and I'm really surprised it isn't getting more coverage on the news - I suppose Biden's continuing Afghanistan cock-up is dominating. Really sad news, seemed a good guy. To clear up a few little points earlier in the thread, I agree 1940s pop stars (and late 30s/40s-born actors) are the next big DP thing. Never mind the excesses of the 60s and 70s, they're simply all getting on in age. However, unless they are known to have an illness they're currently pot luck - any of them could just pop off out of the blue. I do think some rock n roll excesses are overestimated, as said by a few people here. However, as also stated, quality of product is important too. You can quite happily maintain a heroin addiction for many years and with little fuss with a decent supply and being careful with dosing. Keef was already rich and with access to the best people with the best connections by the time he dabbled with smack (Robert Fraser, Miles, John Dunbar - the Indica Gallery types - plus minor aristocracy like the Ormsby-Gores). His real rock bottom was 1977 and the Toronto drugs bust - most of the stories of excess after that are almost certainly, if straight up untrue, then exaggerated to maintain the myth. Re Jefferson Airplane - they used to get their acid direct from Owsley Stanley; there was no better source! I still think Grace Slick will outlive the lot of them, in much the same way that I suspect David Crosby will be the last CSNY to fall. Sod's law and all that. Crosby was by far more of a reckless intoxicant pig than Grace - she was always fairly cautious (didn't touch heroin, for example) and she's on record as saying, even with drink she was a binger more than anything, she could go months without doing anything but when she did indulge it was to excess and often resulted in bad behaviour. We often think of Grace as being the main hedonist of the Airplane but Jorma Kaukonen's drug intake was far, far riskier to himself. As for real rock n roll casualties, other than the usual names (Ozzy, Steven Adler) I'd mention John Frusciante, who was really down and out for years. Stevie Wright (Easybeats) was a complete wreck by the time he died. Joe Walsh seems to be somewhat damaged too, he certainly doesn't come across as all there in interviews even today.

Scottish artist Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, dead aged 89 a few weeks before turning 90: https://www.scotsman.com/news/people/elizabeth-blackadder-art-world-mourns-death-of-scottish-great-3358499 Cats and flowers....sworn enemies, yet Blackadder made them beautiful. Also a DDP pick - Scotsman counts, right?

RIP pure legend and such a great drummer. I always liked his calm demeanour. He was the glue that held the Stones together. Somehow, even with age, I wouldn't have picked him as first to go in that band. Jagger once said the Stones would only continue if he, Richards and Watts were all in the band. Interesting to see what they will now decide to do.

The relative unscathedness of the Stones was one of those welcome musical miracles. But mortality creeps on us all. RIP

My suggestion for the list, if Liechtenstein is included, would be Wolfgang Haas (1948-) Archbishop of Vaduz (Catholic leader of the whole country) since the creation of the Archdiocese in 1997. Most powerful and known religious leader in the small country.

Experiencing real cognitive dissonance at a Tory talking absolute sense, and with compassion and intelligence. Just serves as a reminder that, as anti-Tory as I and many others feel, the party could and should be far, far less noxious. Out with the Johnson, Raab, Gove and Patel, and in with the Stewart, Soubry, Grieve and Gauke.

Groucho Marx died 44 years ago today, at the age of 86. "Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well I have others". "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book". (Groucho Marx Quotes)
