Or he does not, since his day of birth is in fact October 1st. He was falsely cited as born on September 22nd in a passport in 1945 and kept that date. Maybe he wanted to celebrate earlier. Crossing my fingers that he stands for ten days more, since this would be the second time in history to have two centenarian Nobel laureates alive at the same time. (From December 2010 to December 2012 that were Rita Levi-Montalcini and Ronald Coase, the first two Nobel laureates who turned 100.)

ALS Treatment Only works for 2% of cases but wouldn't it be wonderful if one day this thread could be closed because no one died from this terrible disease any more.

I don't know if this has been used before. But if you think things are bad now let me take you back. The country was in a terrible state When the commons rose for a budget debate It was a few minutes before Healey spoke and then said "Sex will cost £1 a poke" Whether you're short, little, long, fat or thick The tax will be paid for the use of your dick Then Jeremy Thorpe said "Now look Dennis dear will this tax apply to the boys that are queer." Then Ted Heath rose and looked rather glum "Will I be exempt cos' I only like bum?" Mr. Healey replied, and he sounded quite airy The tariff will be doubled for you, you old fairy Mr. Foot then rose to tremendous applause He grabbed Margaret Thatcher and ripped off her drawers he straddled across her and rode her at will then he shouted to Dennis "Put that on my bill" Mr. Wilson then shouted "I think I'll resign" I haven't had sex for a very long time I dream every night of a fanny that's hairy But I get no response from my darling Mary The debate carried on and oh what a sight Dr. Owen was wanking the whole of the night The speaker then said let the voters decide But I think they'll settle for £1.00 a ride So now in the bedrooms of Britain at night There's many a fanny that's closed good and tight We're taxed on our booze and we're taxed on our smoking But we didn't expect to be taxed on our poking If £1.00 a grind is the price we must pay The answer is this, with ourselves we must play, to quench our frustrations we now have to wank and for the state of the country we've Healey to thank.

Clearly I'm behind the curve! I just came here to post this quote from a BBC article regarding the Derby manager's situation: "It is understood Rotherham boss Paul Warne is someone who interests the Derby hierarchy, although he is also being linked with vacancies at Cardiff and Huddersfield." And was about to sat the end may be nigh! Seems its now even nigher! Thank God. That took far too long truth be told - Watford have had about 5 manager's in the time this game's been running!

It says in Wikipedia that originally the memorial chapel was ordered to have room for three monarchs and their spouses. But maybe they changed their mind and retconned it just to be meant for these four. 18 feet is a real overkill, over here 2.1 meters is considered a deep grave suitable for two coffins (to a 2.7 meters deep grave you could fit three coffins) . And especially when they must have given some thought about preventing moisture seeping from the ground etc. It would probably have been difficult enough to build a 10 feet high vault, especially when it had to be added to a very old historical building.

Partial mobilization and nuclear threats now. I've been pretty sure from the start of this, meaning the 2022 war, not the whole crisis since 2014, that the Russian efforts to absorb Ukraine will fail, but it's going to take 2-3 years and will lead to a lot of sacrifice (the things that count as sacrifice in the civilized West). I mean I didn't know that Zelensky wouldn't flee and survive, but I was at least sure that the West would support partisan uprisings, that there would be a sort of frontline at the Dnjepr River, that slowly but surely Russia would have to retreat. Now, Russia never got as far and it's looking a little easier than I expected (typing as my now somewhat more expensive gas heating is keeping me warm). But now, we reach a new phase. The question is not whether Russia will lose (they eventually will), but how far they will go to prevent the loss. The shortcut would be to only "lose" Putin. But right now, I do feel somewhat uneasy.

My introduction to the great man during childhood wasn't actually Star Wars - it was The Simpsons. What a voice. (And also, weirdly, actually one of the best Poe adaptations!)
