Mick Easterby (the oldest trainer who still has a licence - albeit only jointly) was at the final York meeting of the year. Did seem a tad more frail on his feet than some previous years but still looked very alert and capable for a man of his frame & age combination. Didn't snab a picture, was focusing more on the horses on that front, but don't think he's a great proposition for 2023 lists (for all he will obit, and many outside of racing circles wouldn't anticipate that). Mick Channon giving up the licence is somewhat concerning to me. Obviously there's the Sun article hightlighting his Bowel Cancer (or-post Bowel cancer - the current status is left a tad ambiguous at least when I skimmed the piece) but surely he'd have been a golden candidate to introduce a joint licence when the BHA introduced them. By all accounts, his son has been involved for a while and thus this development seems a tad more serious than is, perhaps, being let on. Oliver Sherwood sounds a lot better than last April, just watching his RTV interview after Queens Gamble won the other day. Not a complete longshot for next year but I'd say the interview is strong enough to count him out of Deathrace calculations. Backed a horse of Stella Barclay's at Wolverhampton on Saturday and noticed Alan Berry had given up training (the horse had arrived to her from his yard). Son of the famous Jack Berry so might get an obit at the very periphery of a broadsheet column of some description. Got no evidence to suggest it was illness related (quite frankly, he was a fairly lacklustre trainer - admittedly one that got embroiled in some minor controversy around 2009). In case it isn't something economically related thought I'd flag the name up in case somebody wanted to do some digging.

Very sad news. Incredible guitarist, made his technique look so easy. It wasn't. Never got to see him live - damn - but did once see him cycling down a hill in Southend town centre. He pulled a face at me It would be nice if The Railway pub (his local thst boasted his face on the sign, and also some friends filmed their 'comeback' video there) reopened in his honour and memory. RIP Wilko, legend.

Vincent Cassel, the excellent French actor, the son of legendary French actor Jean-Pierre Cassel, who is well known for portraying violent villains in many of his films, is 56 today. Franco Nero, the admired Italian actor whose breakthrough was his famous portrayal of the lonely gunfighter, dragging a coffin behind him through a muddy and featureless landscape in the 1966 film "Django", is 81 today.

Still nothing alarming from those photos imo. This doesn't look like a Queen Elizabeth situation from the end of last year, where she looked noticeably gaunt.

Nah. I think she just had really radical, outspoken Marxist opinions. She lost two of her sons to a right wing military dictatorship. People who are victimised like that by right wing dictatorships will end up developing extreme views in the opposite direction for obvious reasons. It's the same reason why people who fled Cuba or who are from former Soviet Union countries tend to hold very right wing views.

Deathrace Form Guide #27 Jay J. Armes Eccentric armes-less "World's Greatest Detective" most known for being hired by Marlon Brando to save his son Christian (1956-2008) after he was kidnapped by Brando's ex-wife, Christian's mother Anna Kashfi in 1972. Armes found him in a tent in a Mexican hippie commune with bronchial pneumonia. He's also been hired or claims to have been by Elvis, John Lennon and many others. Also an actor/claims to be one and has claimed to have appeared in 39 Hollywood movies and 28 television shows, but is only known to have appeared in Hawaii Five-O where he played the villain Hookman. And also known for his book, 1970s Jay J. Armes action figures that had detachable prosthetics and various gadgets, and for owning big cats, chimpanzees, tapirs, cougars, monkeys, appearances in loads of places and owning wax statues of himself. He's lied about a ton of stuff including flying everywhere with a private helicopter (actually a prop in his backyard covered with rust), his mentor never existed, he never appeared in "The Man Who Was Too Good At Sex" and was never the subject of fourteen assasination attempts. However he did own a multimillion mansion in El Paco with a shooting range, menagerie, private gym, tons of pictures, paintings, wax puppets and wax heads of himself and a lot of different kinds of taxidermied animals. He sold it a few years ago, now 90 and has been making less public appearances recently. Will he lend a helping hand to the participant who picks him?

At a guess I would say that Leslie Phillips will not go in 2006. Looks very healthy, but then again Bob Monkhouse looked perfectly healthy. This thread reminds me- There is a woman I keep on seeing on the train from Victoria to streatham common. Grey hair in a bob cut, was in couple of carry on films, always played a stupid cockney, Lorraine Chase type before Lorraine Chase if you see what I mean. can anyone give me the name?
