3 pointsIsn't this what this Forum can be about? If there is stuff you don't know about, maybe the death of a person will encourage you to watch or listen to their work, read a book by them, or whatever. I, on the other hand, was brought up in a house where our knowledge was extended by our folks' love of stuff dating right back to music hall. We knew what films to appreciate, even if they were dreadful. So I have the opposite problem...a lot of stuff these days passes me by. I'd probably say for at least the past 15 years I would barely know one popular choon from another, never mind identify who sang it...or even talked over a backing track, such is the way of things. And who are these bright young things in Heartstopper, or Waterloo Road, or on the Tikkity Tok or Insta-satisfaction? I just don't know. Do I care to find out? Not really, whenever I try, it's never as good because it is instant fame, it doesn't seem worked for. And it shows in the end product. Imo.

2 pointsShe was the main actress on the biggest American sitcom of the eighties. But she never really kept that stardom level, turning down roles due to her Scientology beliefs. She was the only major Cheers star not to make an appearance in Frasier, due to real life heat between her and Kelsey Grammer.

1 pointEnding Dong Looks like the doctor must have popped out of the house for a minute – Leslie Phillips has died at the age of 98, and will have to amend his catchphrases to "goodbye" and "I don't say". Star of multiple Carry On films, including Carry On Nurse (1959), Carry On Columbus (1992), and Carried Off in a Coffin (2022), he's best known to younger, cooler, lither audiences like myself for his part in the Harry Potter series as the Sorting Hat, a crazed old pervert who sits on children's heads and dictates their fates, and occasionally shits out swords – truly his most risque role of all. Only 5 of you thought the long-time resident of the Drop Forty care home would see 99, though all 5 banked a weirdly brave number of points on him – Gryffindors, clearly. The only action in the top 41 is @BuffaloPhil's unlucky swing from 7th to 13th, but the race for last place is a real carry-on, with @chilean way making way for @Neobrakeon and @msc to have a big old ding-dong at the bottom. 1 pointOkay, big update arriving... ...think we left off with Leslie Phillips, so the next hit turned out to be Irish cancer activist and government toppler Vicky Phelan. Big points for a couple of players. Lasted long enough to get a replacement slot on some teams. Doddie Weir another popular name, didn't see that one coming! Clare Marx and Jiang Zemin, another couple of popular hits. And finally, Julia Reichert just today. Considering it's been almost a month, there weren't many hits, but they were all relatively big. Then, a shout-out to Torva Messor for the unique hit of Ned Rorem, a classical art-piece composer who died at 99. Bernadette Mayer is waiting for an obit. I would assume we'll get the New York Times obit eventually, but it's not exactly a headline grabbing name, so let's see... I think this is it for now....? We're definitely in the final stretch. The new thread will be up on Sunday or so. The scoreboard shows that An Fear Beag's streak of not missing the important names has come to a halt and Banana is back in front with about 2 hits of distance. An Fear Beag could use, say, Jeannette Lee, for example. But maybe for the first time this year, a lead has solidified into ..uhh.. solid territory. A different huge story of this latter half of the year has been the rise of Predictor, who has been the "winner of the update" for 3-4 updates in a row now, and suddenly, he's on third place. There you see that the year has 12 months, and November is just as important as, say, January. 1 pointDoug Dillard dead. He was a bluegrass banjo player who formed a short-lived but great mid-late 60s band with one of my musical idols, Gene Clark, as well as being in the more traditional Dillards. Who were also in the Andy Griffith Show, so I expect this news to pop up in that thread in a few hours time.

1 pointThe living ones I could find at first glance, ordered by birth. I'm not going to go in depth, this is just what I saw from the Wiki article for Band of Brothers. Anyone who has more can expand. Frank Perconte (b. March 10 1917) Richard Winters (b. January 21 1918) Joseph A. Lesniewski (b. August 29 1920) Lynn "Buck" Compton (b. December 31, 1921) Donald Malarkey (b. 1921) William Guarnere (b. April 28 1922) Edward Heffron (b. May 16, 1923) Darrell "Shifty" Powers (b. 1923) I do as it happens & it's quite comprehensive, but the likes of Hubert Suerth Jr & co. aren't realistically going to get UK obits. James Alley died last year, John Martin in 2005 & neither got any real press mention. Winters definitely will - Compton probably will for his post-Easy Company career, as well as his war-time links. Guarnere... possible as he's high profile of the veterans. The rest... I doubt it. Some of them are doing extremely well considering they are now all over 85.
