Micky Dolenz, the stupendous American actor, director, entrepreneur, musician and producer, known as the drummer, principal lead singer and last surviving member of the hugely successful pop/rock band "The Monkees", which originated from the classic sixties TV show of the same name, is 78 today. Andrea Parker, the attractive American film and television actress, who started her career in the world of entertainment as a professional dancer, a versatile performer with important roles on "ER", "The Pretender", "Less Than Perfect", "Desperate Housewives" and "Pretty Little Liars", is 53 today.

Updated entry for the death of Stevie Marsh. I was fairly confident she had died decades ago, but I wanted a concrete answer, and I got it after much digging in the British newspaper archives looking for clues, then using them to pull out her records. She died in May 2020 aged 94, just 3 months after I posted her entry on here. I also updated The Temperance Seven entry the other day after finding concrete evidence of the death of "Canon" Colin Bowles, their pianist. He died in the 1980s! I've had it confirmed to me now (via someone in the know) that there are three members of that group from their hit-making days still alive (Harrison, Bevan and Gieves-Watson). All aged in their mid to late 80s. Another entry more or less complete then. I think it's unlikely I will ever get to the bottom of every entry on this project, but there are fewer blanks each year as I do more revisions and research. Really happy with it tbh... but some will likely remain mysteries forever. Suzi Miller, Jamo Thomas, Linda Carr, and Ping Ping being some examples of ones I don't expect to solve.

Alipio Vera, Chilean journalist and war correspondant (Nicaraguan Revolution, Salvadoran Civil War, Rwandan genocide, 1991 Soviet coup attempt, Iraq War and War in Afghanistan) hospitalised after suffering a stroke, said to be a complication from a quadruple bypass surgery he had under two weeks ago. In "complex state".

After numerous attempts to get a humorous account of his funeral, I finally got this: It was a somber day in Plains, Georgia as friends, family, and dignitaries gathered to mourn the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. The service was held at the Maranatha Baptist Church, the same church where Carter has been a member for over 70 years. As the mourners took their seats, a hush fell over the room. Suddenly, the doors burst open and in walked a man wearing a peanut costume. The man ran down the aisle, throwing peanuts at the crowd. The peanut thrower was quickly subdued by security, but not before he yelled out, "Jimmy loved peanuts! He wouldn't have wanted us to be sad!" The incident set a light-hearted tone for the rest of the service, with several speakers sharing funny stories about Carter's love of peanuts and his quirky sense of humor. As the service drew to a close, the pallbearers lifted Carter's casket and began to make their way outside to the burial site. Suddenly, the casket slipped and fell to the ground, causing a collective gasp from the mourners. Just as everyone thought the worst had happened, Carter's hand shot out of the casket and gave a thumbs up. It turned out that Carter had arranged for a secret compartment in the casket to play one final joke on his loved ones. The mourners couldn't help but laugh and smile, knowing that even in death, Jimmy Carter was still making them laugh. As they laid him to rest, they knew that the world had lost a great man, but his legacy would live on forever.

I asked ChatbotGPT for some headlines, and it came up with this. They're fucking terrible: Peanut Farmer Finally Kicks the Bucket: Jimmy Carter OK with It Former President Carter's Last Campaign: The One-Way Ticket to the Afterlife The Final Chapter: Jimmy Carter Checks Out and Smiles No More Peanut Butter Dreams: Jimmy Carter Passes Away Heaven Gets a New Habitat as Jimmy Carter Leaves the Earth The Peanut Gallery Goes Silent: Jimmy Carter's Life Comes to a Close Jimmy Carter Bids Farewell to the White House and Hello to the Pearly Gates Former President Peanut Goes to the Great Beyond Jimmy Carter Leaves Us in Good Hands (or Should We Say Wings) President Carter Leaves a Legacy, and a Hearty Appetite for Eternal Peace

Because I can't decide between the threads for scientists, astronauts and Olympic competitors, I'll put this here. Ken Money, a scientist who specialised in the inner ear, was selected as an astronaut (though didn't go to space) and placed 5th in the 1956 Olympics in the men's high jump, reportedly dead aged 88:

Sharpton also looks horrible. He could pass for someone who looks good in their early to mid eighties but absolutely terrible for someone not yet seventy.

Occurred to me that the famous names mentioned in Vogue would have actually been pretty good picks, should Madge have been into deathpooling. Over half of them were still alive when it was released on March 27th 1990. Greta Garbo was the first of those 'survivors' to go, dying on April 15th that same year, and Lauren Bacall was the last, managing another 24 years. Greta Garbo 1905-1990 Marilyn Monroe 1926-1962 Marlene Dietrich 1901-1992 Joe DiMaggio 1914-1999 Marlon Brando 1924-2004 James Dean 1931-1955 Grace Kelly 1929-1982 Jean Harlow 1911-1937 Gene Kelly 1912-1996 Fred Astaire 1899-1987 Ginger Rogers 1911-1995 Rita Hayworth 1918-1987 Lauren Bacall 1924-2014 Katharine Hepburn 1907-2003 Lana Turner 1921-1995 Bette Davis 1908-1989

Oh my, it is done... my database is updated. Now I can enjoy the rest of the year... ..let's see if I can get the full update. Thank you for your notices above. Let's start with them: Just Fontaine scores twice here (not 13 times...). Betty Boothroyd was quite the popular hit. Gordon Pinsent, (who I always confused with an old criminal) was a hit for Torva Messor and GuyFromFuture. Nobody shares the hit of Augie Nieto with Wormfarmer - an extreme obit gamble that paid off. SalmonMousse scores massively with Slim Borgudd, Simone Edwards and Mark Pilgrim, who barely got a BBC obit, but he DID get it. Amazingly, these three names are all unique.. could this finally be SalmonMousse's year? Gooseberry Crumble only gets two unique hits, Raquel Welch and Bernard Ingham. His third hit, Stella Stevens, is shared, with Sean, for example. Next, Tim Lobinger. I guess I was too dismissive of this german name and his obit chances, but quite a few of you were rewarded for the risk. Huey "Piano" Smith was a unique hit for Death Impends. Finally, the Deathlist hits of Burt Bacharach and Pervez Musharraf also score plentifully here. Next, I noticed some 2022 deaths that I replaced in my database. I am probably not going to adjust the masterlist for a while, if at all... But rest assured, it's all in my game file. JoeMoneypenny missed that a japanese businessman (I already forgot the name) already died in 2022. Satoru Sayama gets in as a replacement. Somebody (Diego?) also picked japanese dance Yuriko, but that person also died in 2022. Norman Lear is the sub. We also have a couple of names waiting for their obits, Steve Woodmore and Juan Velarde Fuentes, as far as I can tell. The chances are probably slim... Next up, the hits of relatively old people not yet announced here. Dick Cheney's accidental target, Harry Whittington was a unique hit for Summer in Transilvania. The former chairman of the Toyota corporation, Shoichido Toyoda was a unique hit for LadyFiona. Now, another triplet of unique hits, this time for Diego: Felix Sienra, Hsing Yun and ancient Serbian actress Branka Veselimovic are all for him alone. Well done! Aaand.. next ones, let's look at the yet unmentioned DDP hits: Christopher Fowler is a hit for three people, and Miroslav Blazevic is a hit for two people, Banana among them. Ricou Browning is the second unique hit in this update for Death Impends. Walter Mirisch is a unique hit for Daredevil.. You all really managed to pick them all! (except for Gary Rossington, I guess...) I wonder what this all adds up to... but I suspect, we have a repeat of last year with Banana and Salmon Mousse battling it out. Whether you love him or loathe him, to me he feels like more of a link to the past than any of the current list. The Nixon Presidency and the Watergate era feels like another world to me and ancient history, and yet one of the leading protagonists is still here in 2023. It will be an end of an era when he goes.
