    Claude Rains, consummate character actor who was nominated multiple times for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, died from an abdominal hemorrhage in Laconia on this date in 1967. He was 77 years old. Rains, the first film actor to earn a million dollars for a part, starred in over 50 films that included great classics as "Casablanca" (1942) or "Notorious" (1946). He was buried at the Red Hill Cemetery in Moultonborough, New Hampshire.

    Sheriff's office said he crashed his bicycle this morning and later died in a Utah hospital. No other vehicle involved apparently. After Shawn Bradley sustained life changing injuries also cycling in Utah it may be prudent for any 7ft+ Caucasian ex-NBA players to forgo any such activity!
