Claude Rains, consummate character actor who was nominated multiple times for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, died from an abdominal hemorrhage in Laconia on this date in 1967.

Rains, the first film actor to earn a million dollars for a part, starred in over 50 films that included great classics as "Casablanca" (1942) or "Notorious" (1946).
He was buried at the Red Hill Cemetery in Moultonborough, New Hampshire.
