Glynis Johns, the stupendous South African-born British actress, dancer and singer who is the oldest living Academy Award-nominee in any acting category, is 99 today. Mariano Ozores, the especially successful Spanish film director and screenwriter, a fundamental personality in Spanish cinema, who was born into a family of performers, is 96 today. His brothers, José Luis, the most beloved comedian actor of the 1950s, and Antonio were actors. Although critically despised, Ozores directed almost a hundred films, the most popular Spanish comical films of all time and the biggest box-office hits of the era. The dynasty continues with the actresses Adriana and Emma Ozores, his nieces.

She’s just started her speech. She walked out to M People - Moving On Up. Sadly, only the chorus played, as the lyrics in the verse make more sense: You've done me wrong, your time is up You took a sip from the devil's cup You broke my heart, there's no way back Move right out of here, baby, go on pack your bags Just who do you think you are? Stop actin' like some kind of star

One of the most powerful women of Bavaria, Barbara Stamm, has died aged 77: https://www.br.de/nachrichten/bayern/csu-politikerin-barbara-stamm-gestorben,TJ6O2Ti Stamm was child educator by profession, when she was elected to the Würzburg city council for the Bavarian Conservative party CSU in the 1970s. She stood also for election as Lord Mayor of Würzburg in 1990, but did not win. Four years later, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs and Health in Bavaria, she resigned in 2001 following the BSE-crisis. Her last significant post in politics was as president of the state parliament from 2008 to 2018. She had to give it up after she lost her seat in parliament following the 2018 election. Shortly before that, Stamm served as acting Minister-president together with Ilse Aigner for two days from May 14th to 16th 2018, after the resignation of Horst Seehofer and before the election of Markus Söder.

Decided to use Chrome's "Inspect" tool in an attempt to write an obit before anyone complains. You too, can do this if you know HTML (it'll only appear on that one tab and revert to normal when you refresh the page).

A rare all-women batch for this past month of HPDPing. Only markb4 had Marsha Hunt on his (black)list to the score of 56 points (40 base + 16 bonus). This almost slipped through the cracks, but it turns out Queen Elizabeth II died a month back. I was able to find a snippet mentioning her death in a Corriere della Sera article, so the points are safe. A trio of teams take reign: 40 points for Famous6Eva, 25 for Pedro67, and a second sub hit worth 50 points for DevonDeathTrip. Another second sub is marked in this update with maryportfuncity seeing 50 points from classicist Joyce Reynolds going from epigraphs to epitaphs. The death of Native American activist and Brando stand-in Sacheen Littlefeather sees two birds of a feather flock together: 40 points for Salmon Mousse and 30 for John Key. Lastly, points on the way for An Fear Beag who mines a unique hit with Loretta Lynn. The unique Squares pick is worth 33 points in all (15 base + 18 bonus). The latest scoreboard sees the top three unchanged but a growing bottleneck beneath with Salmon Mousse and maryportfuncity joining in: 1. Book 360 2. Banana 300.81 3. gcreptile 293.81 4. Salmon Mousse 251 5. msc 250 6. drol 249 7. maryportfuncity 245 8. Perhaps 223 9. CaptainChorizo 222 10. markb4 220.99 11. Pedro67 212 12. DevonDeathTrip 208 13. theoldlady 163.82 14. Osman Abdrahim is still alive at 101. Here a week ago with three other WWII vets , ages 100 to 101 (Abdrahim is the guy with the glasses): Also read a while ago that there are around 10-15 veterans of the Finnish Infantry Regiment 200 still living. (From wikipedia: unit in the Finnish army during World War II made up mostly of Estonian volunteers, who preferred to fight against the Soviet Union in the ranks of the Finnish army instead of the armed forces of Germany) Among the living ones are Taavi Kaups (96, lives in the US), Erich Anton (96), Lembit Kaselaan (98), Jaanus Jahilu and Artur Roopalu (both 97)

It's weird to think that there is currently 5 living former US president whereas there is only two former president still alive in France. I know that the length of presidency is one year longer in France than in USA but still, don't know how to explain that… Also, I think I'll have to wait a long time to see a former French president on DL again : Francois Hollande is currently 68 and Nicolas Sarkozy 67 so quite young and both in excellent shape. Finally, there is still 5 living former French first-lady (so as much as US first-lady) : Bernadette Chirac and Anne-Aymone Giscard d'Estaing, the oldest ones, both born in 1933 ; Cecilia Sarkozy, born 1957; Carla Bruni Sarkozy, born 1967 and Valerie Trierweiller, born 1965. The question of including Julie Gayet (b.1972) in this list is quite tricky. If you want my opinion, Bernadette Chirac is the next one to go and I think it'll be pretty soon considering she's weelchairbound, haven't been seen in 3 or 4 years now and is said to be very very frail. A good addition to any list and maybe the official one.

Trump and Clinton I both expect to snuff it with very little warning at some point in the next decade or so. Clinton is what LBJ would be if he'd tried to take care of his health in the 1970s, and Trump takes less care of his health than a Glasgow addict. Bush Jr seems in reasonably good nick for his age, barring future illnesses (I do remember when Paul Newman seemed like the healthiest 70 year old in town) - I think he's around for a while yet. Biden's longevity depends on if he retires in January 2025 or not. He could easily go into a quiet long decline and wrack up the years. Even if Obama died young-ish, we're still talking not for another fifteen years plus imo. Once Jimmy Carter goes, it's a fight between Donald and Billy Boy to be next to go, I think.
