5 pointsDL deaths born after 1950 and the years in which they became "famous enough for the DL" (obviously there'll be a few years give-or-take here, but the numbers should be roughly accurate no matter how much you want to quibble): Bernie Nolan - 1974 Genesis P-orridge - 1975 Barry Sheene -1976 Tim Gullikson - 1977 Simon MacCorkindale - 1978 Leon Spinks - 1978 Simon Cadell - 1980 Mark E Smith - 1980 Martin Crowe - 1982 Johnny Clegg - 1983 Laurent Fignon - 1983 Patrick Swayze - 1984 Errol Christie - 1985 Helen Rollason - 1988 Gord Downie - 1989 Sam Simon - 1989 Leah Bracknell - 1989 Abdelbaset al-Megrahi - 1991 John Diamond - 1992 Rush Limbaugh - 1993 Joost van der Westhuizen - 1994 Bill Turnbull - 1994 Hugo Chavez - 1999 Irwin became "DL famous"... 2004? So he would be a big outlier, with only Chavez (a political, rather than pop cultural, figure) coming within a decade of his celebrity.

4 pointsAll the effort I put into the second Survivor guy's obit probably speaks to how fun I find those picks! My personal favorite "didn't know them before, but wow, what a fascinating life" hit this year has been Tim Page.

4 pointsHow many people there are left born before 1910? Top 10: 1. Lucile Randon (1904-2023) 2. Maria Branyas Morera (1907-2024) 3. Fusa Tatsumi (1907-2023) Very frail. 4. Bessie Hendricks (1907-2022) 5. Edie Ceccarelli (1908-2024) Dementia sufferer seemingly in fast health decline. 6. Kahoru Furuya (1908-2022) Oldest person ever with a pacemaker, as far as I know the first person with a pacemaker to live to 114. 7. Tomiko Itooka (1908) Survived a stroke and a brain surgery at around 110, medical miracle. 8. Inah Canabarro Lucas (1908) Picture of health a year ago, but as far as I know has been in and out of hospital recently. Still doesn't look frail however. 9. Hazel Plummer (1908-2023) Extremely frail. 10. Kimiko Ono (1908-2022) ... 11. Yasue Okai (1908-2023) 114 in a few days. Seems very frail. 12. Hide Hamabe (1908-2023) 13. Nina Willis (1909-2023) Was already in very frail condition in January 2021. 14. Shinobu Hayashi (1909-2023) Sumo wrestling fan, often wears a large hat. 15. Annabelle Holblinger (1909-2023) 16. Shige Mineshiba (1909-2023) Canada's oldest suffering from dementia for over a decade. Heart attack survivor. 17. Juan Vicente Perez Mora (1909-2024) Oldest man 18. Elizabeth Francis (1909) 19. Ethel Caterham (1909) Last subject of Edward VII. 20. Okagi Hayashi (1909) Looks amazing for 113. 21. Josephina Maria da Conceicao (1909-2023) Frail and possibly a dementia sufferer. Could be one of those cases that turn out to be fake. 22. Juliette Bilde (1909-2022) Second-oldest French person. Frail with swollen legs. 23. Shina Seki (1909-2023) 24. Pearl Berg (1909-2024) On oxygen in 2019 or 2020, looked great this year. Claims to be born 1910 instead of 1909. 25. Tane Matsubara (1909-2024) Very frail. 26. Maki Hirabayashi (1909-2023) Not seen in 8 years. 27. Maria Aulenbacher (1909-2023) 28. Masa Matsumoto (1909-2024) 29. Charlotte Kretschmann (1909) 30. Concepcion Alarcon Vega (1909-limbo, 2021) Frail at 109, is she still alive? Matsu Gaja (1908-2022, would possibly be the fifth or sixth-oldest person) and Kimi Kawasaki (1909-2022, would be the 16th-oldest) are probably still alive but didn't include them as apparently nearly nothing is known about them by gerontology groups. There are a few fraudsters who I've dropped due to the fact that they're now considered fraudsters by Gerontology Wikia and half of them have probably already died in limbo and fraudster Wang Zhanwen, who seems old but isn't 115.

3 pointsPerhaps Joni Mitchell and/or Tina Turner will be back on the DL in 2023.

2 pointsRandom thoughts.... I find it amazing how Pope Francis has now been pope for longer than Benedict has, meaning Benedict's retirement has now been longer than his papacy. Also, Pope Francis turns 86 in a month, meaning he's now one month older than Benedict was when he retired.

2 pointsThose are also actually fun to add into the game. More so than, say, "Amazing Race Australia/USA/Canada Season 6/12/8 contestant XYZ".

2 pointsOver the end credits of the BBC's World Cup match last night, they played the Feelgoods' version of Nick Lowe's Heart of the City, though I'm not sure he was even in the band by then. But a nice tribute all the same.

2 pointsRoy Aitken, Scottish former football player and manager, best known as 'Shirley' or 'The Bear' due to his famous curly hair, who was a Scotland and Celtic great over the course of his career, is 64 today. Billy Connolly, the great and popular Scottish actor, comedian, musician and presenter who began his successful career in the 60s as the frontman of local folk rock group, The Humblebums, is 80 today.

2 pointsI'm more of a casual player on here than most. I more or less have my DDP teams set for next year. I have to admit, I'm looking for some uniques that will make @Death Impends have to go to greater lengths of creativity when writing an obit.

2 pointsOne of the loveliest chaps you could ever wish to meet. Saw him many times over the years. Had a lovely chat with him backstage at the Royal Albert Hall when he was on the bill for John Otway's 21st anniversary concert. Also travelled on the coach with him on one of the annual Dunkirk trips (again with Otway)

2 pointsAdvent Avalanche Form Guide #2: Epic Llloyd That guy from "you found it funny when you were 15 don't pretend you didn't" YouTube channel Epic Rap Battles of History has been making this exact same face in every single video for over a decade now. Assuming it's constipation, he must have 10 years' worth of impacted fecal matter inside his colon right now, not a viable situation for continued living.

1 pointShall we? I mean, they're dropping like flies (four whole castmember deaths over 20 years), and its probably a more interesting category than "who will die first, an old man or another old man". Plus if David Jason starts going handgliding again [deleted on legal grounds].

1 pointhttps://www.tmz.com/2022/11/21/sinbad-stroke-2-years-learning-to-walk-family-update/ He's still recovering from the stroke it seems, But has been having extensive therapy on to walk again. It does sound somewhat hopeful though he's got a long road ahead of him. But the stroke was the same type Tim Curry had. Affected right side. Might need to keep an eye on Sinbad.

1 pointJust wanted to point out, the last two major 1923 celebrities to depart us were Bob Dole and Chuck Yeager, who passed dec. 5, 2021 and dec. 7 2020 respectively. Could the first week of December 2022 provide us with another 1923 hit? If so, I doubt it would be Kissinger.

1 pointAdvent Avalanche Form Guide #1 The Iron Sheik The Wrestling Legend is 80 which is like a regular civilian being 110,and has had limited mobility for quite a while. Seriously this guy was drunk/drugged out and looked like he could die any day in shoot interviews 15-20 years ago.

1 pointMet Ukrainian Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk yesterday: Seems kind of stable but very frail and ill and one of those people you wouldn't be suprised if they suddenly died a day or two after making their last public appearance. If he makes it to 2023 needs to be put back on the list. He's almost 96, his brother died at that age and Benedict was always frailer than Georg Ratzinger who used to mention stuff about Ben's health to the press. Very suprised he's made it this far Short, incomplete health history: Tried to resign three times from his positions as a cardinal: 1991, 1996, 2001. Suffers from high BP, other heart problems, arthritis, rumored to have parkinson's, congestive heart failure and a serious "debilitating disease". 1991 - Suffers hemorrhagic stroke. In September 1991, Ratzinger suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, which slightly impaired his eyesight temporarily but which he recovered completely. This was never officially made public—the official news was that Ratzinger had fallen and struck his head against a radiator—but was an open secret known to the conclave that elected him pope. 1992 - Fall 1997 - Pacemaker implantation. 2005 - Suffers a second stroke, also suffering from a heart condition. 2006 - Bypass operation "routine examination of the heart" and fall. 2009 - Fall, breaks wrist and undergoes surgery 2011 - First reported to be suffering from arthritis/osteoarthritis. March 2012 - Suffers head injury on Mexico trip. ca. December 2012 - Pacemaker battery replacement 28 February 2013 - Resigns due to "multiple health problems" and advanced age. 2020 - Seriously ill with trigeminal neuralgia.
